Data is critical to the success of any Data Driven Organization, and at Delta Air Lines, it is the lifeblood that drives value by providing the information to make strategic business decisions and process improvements. The Enterprise Information Management (EIM) Data Architect (DA) is responsible for working with the EIM Delivery and Development teams to develop data governance, data standardization and data design strategies. This person will have a consulting role in the high-level architecture but will spend most of their time understanding existing data structures and developing standards, processes and audit reporting on the health of the enterprise data. The Data Architect focusing on governance will collaborate with development and functional business teams to develop an enterprise standard. Additionally, this individual will be involved with shaping and implementing Data Quality and Metadata management capabilities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Define vision, strategy and principles for data management

Define standards for naming, describing, governing, managing, modeling, cleansing, enriching, transforming, moving, storing, searching and delivering all data within the enterprise

Serve as the liaison between data consumer representatives and data solution development, integration and governance teams

Inform and interpret data project sponsors

Understand and articulate how data is, or will be, used and implication on people, processes, products and technology

Represent Data and Information Architecture in the Enterprise Architecture Body

Work across teams to leverage synergies and align data models with overall Information Architecture

Participate in developing the future state data architecture standards, guidelines, and principles

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering

8+ years of overall experience with 5+ years in Enterprise / Application architecture & 3-4 years of relevant experience in data modelling of structured and unstructured entities, RDBMS and NoSQL design, data architecting

Experience with Multi-Tenant Data Architectures, Data Security and isolation Mechanisms with Fine-grained Access Control

Experience with High Volume Data Ingestion Mechanisms, Data Analytics Stores, Data Warehousing, Data Quality Management and Data Lifecycle Management

Knowledge of RDBMS Database Design such as MySQL, Teradata, Oracle, SQL Server etc.

Knowledge of NOSQL Database Design such as HBase, Mongo DB, Cassandra etc.

Experience with Data models involving Sharding, Distributed Database Design, In-Memory Caching Models

Experience with Database performance engineering, SQL query tuning for PostgreSQL, Teradata, Oracle, NoSQL databases

Experience with Linux and Windows System Administration, Kernel Tuning, Registry configuration and holistic systems analysis

Experience in Cloud/Virtualization Technologies

Experience in designing data models for cloud-based solutions from leading cloud providers such as AWS, Azure, etc

Experience with data modelling and design tools

Strong understanding of architectural principles, models, patterns, and perspectives in order to define and validate architecture solutions independently

Knowledge of web-based systems architecture, service-oriented architecture, enterprise application architectures

Experience in defining new architectures and ability to drive an independent project from an architectural stand point

Experience in leading Technical Architecture reviews in coordination with the Lead Solution Architects and various technical architects to determine compliance with the agreed architecture.

Experience with Agile (Scrum) project methodology and practices is desirable but not mandatory

In-depth knowledge of design issues and best practices associated with complex and disparate systems in order to create and validate designs for the same

Understanding of end to end business/functional processes with industry vertical/sub vertical in order to be able to translate business requirements into system requirements and perform impact analysis of changes in requirements

In-depth knowledge of one and broad knowledge of other technologies and/or alliance product landscape to create and implement an optimal technology roadmap and select the right infrastructure and technology platform or product.

Ability to understand and use advanced solution evaluation methods in slightly complex client scenario to ensure that solution alternatives are identified, impact of alternatives on various functional/solution area is understood and feasibility of solution alternatives is established

Actively try to understand the emerging business trends (financial, operational, technical and human) through interaction with clients and industry peers and is able to discuss them and provide inputs as and when required

Anticipates customer's needs, provides inputs for solutions, demonstrates industry understanding and provides inputs to customers on areas other than project work and builds confidence with customer at higher levels to be treated as an advisor

Knowledge of entire Enterprise Cloud journey evolution and life cycle management

Working knowledge of architecture frameworks and standards like TOGAF, Zachman etc., or service oriented concepts, client server architecture, tiered, component based styles and integration with BPM with knowledge of limitation/advantages/tradeoff in order to apply standard/reference architecture

Broad knowledge of technology landscape to guide the team, evaluate work products, and connect to technology officers in customer organization

Industry Standard Certifications in Cloud, Infrastructure & Virtualization areas will be an added plus

HIGHLY PREFERRED SKILLS:

Experience with Data Governance/Standardization tools

Experience using Data Modeling tools, such as Erwin

Understanding of partitioning, archival, and retention strategies

Knowledge of ETL & BI tools (Informatica, Data stage, TIBCO, Mule Soft)

Knowledge of web services and/or Enterprise Application Integration
